The Inter-REC Coordination and Cooperation Platform (2025/2026) Annual Report
The 2025/2026 reporting period marks a significant phase in the consolidation and operational maturation of the Inter-REC Coordination and Cooperation Platform under the Chairmanship of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). During this period, the Platform moved decisively from foundational dialogue toward concrete institutional action, anchored in an agreed Annual Work Plan and sustained high-level engagement with the African Union Commission (AUC).
Key achievements recorded during the year reflect the collective resolve of Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and Regional Mechanisms (RMs) to strengthen subsidiarity, enhance coordination, and advance the practical implementation of the 2021 AU–REC/RM Protocol. Through CEO-level consultations, Technical Working Group deliberations, and structured advocacy with the AUC leadership, the Platform succeeded in elevating the visibility, voice, and strategic relevance of RECs and RMs within AU deci- sion-making processes.
