IGAD Leadership Academy (ILA) was established to facilitate the mentorship and provisioning of future leaders with the critical skillsets necessary to steer the course of a rapidly developing multi-cultural African society in the 21st century and beyond. Approved by the IGAD Heads of State and Government Summit in July 2022, ILA is anchored in African values and global best practices, with a commitment to fostering leadership that promotes peace, good governance, and regional integration.

ILA operates under IGAD’s mission to promote peace, prosperity, and regional integration. Our mandate includes:
- Training and Mentorship: Equipping leaders with skills for governance, conflict resolution, and sustainable leadership.
- Research and Innovation: Developing homegrown solutions to leadership challenges in the IGAD region and beyond.
- Regional Collaboration: Providing a platform for emerging and established leaders to share knowledge, best practices, and experiences.
- To build a critical network of visionary, strategic, and ethical leaders who will drive change and transformation of the IGAD region and Africa.
