SEPTEMBER 6, 2022 (Adama, Ethiopia): The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Peace and Security Division concluded three-day capacity building training workshop on post conflict peace building for religious, community and youth leaders of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
The objective of the capacity building training workshop was to enhance the knowledge and skills of the religious, community and youth leaders on post conflict peace building. The participants of the workshop were religious, community and youth leaders from different parts of the Country. Senior officials and experts from the Ministry of Peace and Regional States were also presented.
Hon. Siraj Fegessa, Director of IGAD Peace and Security Division (PSD), in his opening remarks highlighted that countries in post conflict situations need to engage and participate different stakeholders at grass root level to bring sustainable peace. He also highlighted that this workshop manifested IGAD’s engagement at local level in its member states.
The IGAD Peace and Security division has developed the IGAD Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development Policy Framework. The main objective of the framework is to support countries emerging out of such conflicts or in a conflict situation in their efforts towards re-building. These include managing further dispute, preventing escalations, avoid relapse into violence, and address the root causes of conflict with efforts to consolidate sustainable peace, security, and development.
