MARCH 13,  2021 ( Bishoftu, Ethiopia): The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Peace and Security Division (PSD)  started five days Capacity Building Training on Post Conflict Reconstruction and Development (PCRD) for Officials and Senior Experts of Ministry of Peace and Peace and Security Bureaus of Regional States of the Federal Democratic of Ethiopia .

The objective of the capacity building training is to enhance and deepens the knowledge and skills of the officials and senior experts of the Ministry of Peace and Peace and Security Bureaus of Regional States of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in post-conflict reconstruction activities and processes in peace building.

Hon. Siraj Fegessa, Director of IGAD Peace and Security Division, in his opening remarks expressed that “in Sub-Saharan Africa, where IGAD countries are located, it is almost a case that we always have countries that deal with internal conflicts irrespective of the extent of escalation to violence, and irrespective of the extent of spillover affects that affect neighboring countries. As we all know, the sources of these conflicts can be attributed to certain fundamental causes such as poverty, scarcity of resources, inequality that is related to luck of Governance, politicized ethnicity etc”.

The mission of IGAD Peace and Security Division is to contribute for the achievement of sustainable peace and security for attainment of economic integration in the region, and one of the strategic objectives of the Division is Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development.

IGAD Peace and Security Division has developed Post conflict reconstruction and development Policy Framework in 2013. The policy framework defined a comprehensive set of measures that seek to address the needs of people emerging from conflict, prevent escalation of disputes, avoid relapse into violence, address the root causes of convict, and consolidate sustainable development, security and peace.
