26.11.2019 (Addis Ababa, ETHIOPIA) – The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu this afternoon met a high level delegation from Denmark at the IGAD Peace and Security Division (PSD) offices in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to strengthen cooperation.

During the meeting, Dr. Workneh touched on key issues affecting the region as well as his vision and mission for the regional organization as he takes over the leadership of the Secretariat.

“During my tenure I will focus on supporting the IGAD Member States in peace building and regional integration as well as a strengthening institutional and organizational structures of IGAD,” stated the incoming IGAD Executive Secretary.

Dr. Workneh pointed out that the issue of migration and youth unemployment would also feature prominently in the course of his work.

The Danish delegation led by the Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Ms. Lisbet Zilmer-Johns appreciated IGAD’s consistent efforts in the area of peace and security in the region and recommitted their continued support in tackling these challenges.

Also in attendance was the Danish Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mrs. Karin Poulsen and other senior staff of the embassy in Ethiopia as well as senior representation of the PSD.

The two parties also touched on the agenda of the upcoming 13th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government and committed to working together for a peaceful and prosperous region.
