Accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising IGAD Directors in Peace & Security, Health & Social Development, and Planning & Partnerships, the Executive Secretary will engage with Member States, development partners, and international institutions to strengthen cooperation for peace, stability, and resilience in the Horn of Africa.
His mission centres on elevating youth and women in peace building and climate action, while also advancing dialogue on Sudan and mobilising urgent international action to secure lasting solutions for the region.
The IGAD Executive Secretary will hold bilateral and multilateral meetings to mobilize support for women-led peacebuilding initiatives, youth-driven climate innovation, and inclusive governance. In parallel, he will press for urgent humanitarian and political responses to the crisis in Sudan, alongside commitments to address the pressing challenges of climate change, displacement, and insecurity in the region.
“Sudan demands urgent action for peace and stability. At the same time, the voices of youth and women must be empowered to drive climate resilience and inclusive growth across our region,” said H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, IGAD Executive Secretary.
