IGAD and Sweden Enhance Partnership to Promote Regional Peace

The Executive Secretary of IGAD H.E Amb (Eng) Mahboub Maalim and the Ambassador of Sweden to Ethiopia and Djibouti H.E Ambassador Jan Sadek on May 12, 2017 signed another bi-lateral cooperation agreement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The agreement is a continuation of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) support for the implementation of the IGAD Regional Peace and Security Strategy and the implementation of the Institutional Strengthening Action Plan (ISAP).

The financial contribution under this Agreement is USD 1.6million for the year 2017.

Upon the signing of the Agreement, both sides discussed peace and security issues in the region as well as the future partnership to continuously supporting the regional agenda on peace and security.

Sweden is a long-term partner of IGAD that has been significantly contributing to the implementation of the above two areas and country specific peace processes in the IGAD region.
