The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has received financing in the amount of US$ 2.7 Million equivalent from the World Bank toward the cost of the Horn of Africa- Groundwater Initiative (HOA-GWI) and it intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments for goods, works, related services and consulting services to be procured under this project.
The project comprises of four main components, namely, (i) Expanding the knowledge base on regional ground water resources; (ii) Strengthening capacity in groundwater management in IGAD Member States; (iii) Maximizing benefits of groundwater to strengthen resilience and economic development; and (iv) Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation.
Each component includes a regional dimension with a set of activities at local, national and transboundary level in the Horn of Africa, and a global dimension aiming at developing guidance for assessing and managing groundwater in dryland regions in Africa and elsewhere to be carried out through consulting services (firms and Induvial consultants ).
Procurement of contracts financed by the World Bank will be conducted through the procedures as specified in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits (current edition), and is open to all eligible bidders as defined in the guidelines. Consulting services will be selected in accordance with the World Bank’s Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers (current edition).[1]
Specific procurement notices for contracts to be bid under the World Bank’s international competitive bidding (ICB) procedures and for contracts for consultancy services will be announced, as they become available, in UN Development Business , dgMarket and IGAD website as well.
