June 24, 2025 (Kampala, Uganda): The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), through its Land Governance Programme, is convening a National Dialogue on Women Parliamentarians from 25–26 June 2025 in Kampala, Uganda. The two-day dialogue brings together women parliamentary leaders from key committees on land, natural resources, climate change, agriculture, gender budgeting, and disaster risk reduction, along with representatives from women parliamentarian associations and national land, gender and climate related institutions.
The dialogue aims to strengthen the capacity of women parliamentarians to engage more effectively in land governance, climate action, and gender-sensitive policymaking and oversight. It provides a platform to identify challenges, share promising practices, and explore opportunities for women’s influence in national and regional land and climate policy processes.
Key objectives include:
- Enhancing understanding of the interlinkages between gender, land governance, and climate change
- Building technical capacity in gender analysis of sector budgets to elevate women’s voices in legislative and policy processes
- Identifying strategies and entry points for women parliamentarians to champion gender-transformative and climate-resilient land programmes
The event is supported by GIZ, reinforcing strong international backing for gender equality, good governance, and climate resilience.
The Kampala session marks the beginning of a series of national dialogues to be held across IGAD Member States, reaffirming IGAD’s commitment to inclusive, participatory governance and sustainable land management.
