June 25, 2025 (Diani, Kenya)– The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has today launched a high-level senior management training under the theme “Leading with Vision: Navigating Complexity, Crisis and Change in the IGAD Region.” The training brings together IGAD directors, programme heads, and senior advisors for an intensive leadership programme aimed at enhancing their capacity to manage uncertainty and drive impact across the region.

The IGAD region continues to face overlapping crises—including conflict, climate change, food insecurity, displacement, and economic volatility—that demand visionary and adaptive leadership. This training equips IGAD’s leadership with the necessary tools to navigate these complex dynamics while remaining grounded in the organisation’s core mandate of promoting peace, regional integration, and sustainable development.

Speaking at the opening, IGAD Executive Secretary, H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, reaffirmed IGAD’s commitment to strengthening institutional leadership as a cornerstone of regional stability and progress.

“At IGAD, we believe that leadership is not just about authority—it’s about responsibility, foresight, and the courage to act in the face of uncertainty. Our region requires leaders who can think strategically, adapt quickly, and lead with empathy. This training is part of our broader effort to prepare our institution for the future,” said Dr. Workneh.

The training is part of IGAD’s broader institutional development agenda and is designed in partnership with leading experts in crisis leadership, systems thinking, and organisational transformation. Over the course of several days, participants will engage in practical sessions on scenario planning, change management, resilience thinking, and collaborative leadership.

By investing in the skills of its senior leadership, IGAD reinforces its commitment to delivering results that matter to the over 300 million people of the IGAD region.
