December 10-12, 2024 (DAR ES-SALAAM, Tanzania): The Peace and Security Division and IGAD Gender Unit in collaboration with Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA).
Successfully conducted a three-day workshop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to strengthen the WPS (Women Peace and Security) agenda in peace and security work, of the Division’s gender focal points and key colleagues.
During her opening Remarks, Mrs. Amina Farah, the IGAD Gender Unit Program Manager emphasised the importance of this workshop in ensuring constructive feedback, women’s participation and WPS implementation.
This workshop aimed to incorporate the WPS agenda into the regular work of the Division, whether it’s in mediation efforts, the realm of regional security, or other topics of importance. It also marks the foundation of a long-term partnership between the two institutions. The activity marked a fundamental step as it builds the Division’s staff’s confidence in their mandate to implement their regular activities while encompassing relevant aspects of the Women, Peace and Security agenda.
Embracing a participatory training methodology, some of thke key topics the team delved into are Gender Mainstreaming, Analysis, and Archtecture, System and Roles of PSD Gender Focalpoints, WPS in mediation efforts and peace processes, gender and conflict and the WPS agenda.
Certificates of participation were awarded to the team at the end of the workshop.
