May 30, 2022 (DJIBOUTI, Djibouti): The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, welcomes the decision of the Sovereign Council of the Republic of Sudan to lift the state of emergency and to release prisoners.
The Executive Secretary hails it as a positive step towards creating a conducive environment to an all-inclusive intra-Sudanese talks.
Dr Workneh encourages all stakeholders, including the main political parties, the military, civil society organisations and the youth to address the nation’s challenges through dialogue and discussion.
In this regard, Dr Workneh urges all stakeholders to fully support and actively take part in the Trilateral Initiative of AU-IGAD-UN that is aimed at creating a platform and facilitating a Sudanese led and owned process towards the restoration of constitutional order and democracy.
