By January 27, 2014June 18th, 2021No Comments

On the occasion of March 8 International Women’s Day, celebrated worldwide for many decades now, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Secretariat has designated a regional commemorative theme for the year 2014 as follows:

“Resilient Women Aiming at Sustainable Peace and Development”

The resilience agenda is timely and very crucial in the IGAD Region as a whole, since the IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI) has been launched to run from 2012 to 2027.

The IDDRSI came into being as per the resolve made by the IGAD Heads of State and Government Summit held in September 2012 in Nairobi, Kenya, that drought emergencies need to be addressed adequately and holistically so that drought/disaster triggered calamities could be prevented.

The Regional Celebration of this year’s March 8 International Women’s Day will be on 3rd March 2014, and is the first of its kind at IGAD level. The event which is jointly organized by IGAD Secretariat and the Ministry for the Promotion of Women and Family Planning of the Republic of Djibouti will be highlighted by pertinent activities.
