The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) notes the orderly conduct of the municipal elections in Mogadishu on 25 December 2025,
and commends the people and Federal Government of Somalia for the progress in security conditions that enabled the successful organisation of these elections.
These elections represent an initial step toward the direct election of representatives by the Somali people, contributing to the broader advancement of democratic governance across the country.
The IGAD Secretariat urges all political stakeholders to engage in an inclusive, consultative process grounded in dialogue and mutual compromise, with a view to fostering strengthened democratic institutions, lasting peace, and stability in Somalia.
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with the Somali people in their aspirations for enduring peace, stability, and economic prosperity.
