May 19, 2024 (DJIBOUTI, Djibouti): The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Regional Migration fund Initiative has laid foundation stone for the rehabilitation of Lycée Technique project in Ali-Sabieh, in the Republic of Djibouti.

During the event, speaking on behalf of IGAD, Executive Secretary Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, Madam Fathia Alwan, Director of IGAD Health and Social Development Division highlighted that the rehabilitation of Ali-Sabieh Lycée Technique is one of the infrastructure projects planned under IGAD Regional Fund for Migration.

Furthermore, the Director explained that the rehabilitation is not the only infrastructure for Ali-Sabieh region, but also there are other project including financed under the initiative of RMF including the construction of two market centers in the town of Ali-Sabieh and the village of ‘Ali-Addeh.

“To benefits young refugees and host communities through entrepreneurship and business skill development, Community Development Center will also be constructed in Ali-Addeh village.” She added.

Mr. Abdoul-Malik Mohamed Banoïta, the prefect of Ali-Sabieh welcomed the participants of the event and described the planned infrastructures will benefits the people of Ali-Sabieh region including the refugee population.

He also underscored the vital role of the rehabilitation of Lycée technique and construction of various infrastructures projects including the two market centers will play in enabling many individuals to engage in lucrative commercial activities and diversify their livelihoods.

Dr. Heike Fuller, Ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany to Djibouti and IGAD, on her behalf expressed her joy at being present on the foundation laying event of the rehabilitation of the Ali-Sabieh Lycee Technique.

“This is a good opportunity to offer good professional technical training to many young people of Ali-Sabieh region and from the refugee population.” The ambassador stated.

The president of the regional council, Mr. Charmake Hassan Allaleh, on his part applauded the efforts and commitment of IGAD to implement multitudes of development projects that are beneficial to the young population of Ali-Sabieh region and the refugee living in Ali-Addé camps.

The event was graced by the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Education and Professional Training of the Government of Djibouti, (MENFOP), Mr. Mohamed Abdallah Mayoub.

At the end, the ceremony of foundation laying was done the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Education and Professional Training of the Government of Djibouti, Mr. Mohamed Abdallah Mayoub, Madam Fathia Alwan, Director of the Health and Social Development Division of IGAD, Mr. Abdoul-Malik Mohamed Banoïta, the prefect of Ali-Sabieh and Dr. Heike Fuller, Ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany to Djibouti and IGAD. The event marks the official beginning of the rehabilitation of Ali-Sabieh Lycée Technique.

The IGAD Regional Migration Fund is an initiative aimed at creating economic opportunities, contributing to, and improving the living conditions of migrants, refugees and host communities along the migration corridors and protracted refugee settlement areas in the IGAD region.
