5-9 September, 2022 (Johannesburg, South Africa): IGAD Education Programme team, together with delegates from all Member States (10 onsite / 25 virtual) participated in the African Continental Qualifications Framework (ACQF) Project’s 2nd Training week on Skills, Qualifications and Frameworks for Mutual Trust in a Changing World (5-9 September) in Johannesburg, South Africa. The hybrid training brought together qualifications and skills practitioners, staff of ministries and qualifications agencies, representatives of the world of work and experts from 28 countries including; Angola, Botswana, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Eswatini, Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tunisia and Zambia.
Themes of the training programme: national and regional qualifications frameworks, quality assurance, digitalisation and development of qualifications, recognition of learning and qualifications, online registers of qualifications, novel approaches to labour market intelligence, monitoring and evaluation, and referencing to ACQF.
IGAD facilitated a presentation on the IGAD Regional Qualifications Framework. Dr. Dereje Awgichew Woldemariam of Ethiopia also presented an update on the Ethiopian Qualification Framework.
Participation in the training was intended to contribute to the development and finalisation of the IGAD Regional Qualifications Framework and provide an environment for Member State delegates to deepen knowledge, share experiences and strengthen collaboration with practitioners in Africa and beyond.
