Addis Ababa, 17 March 2017 – IGAD Foreign Ministers and their representatives from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda held a consultative meeting with H.E. Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission, today at the African Union Headquarters.

The meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Chairperson of the IGAD Council of Ministers, and H.E. Federica Mogherini.

The main agenda items of the consultation included the dire humanitarian situation due to drought emergencies across the region as well as political and security developments in Somalia and South Sudan. Common security concerns related to migration and violent extremism, and the need for closer collaboration was raised.

H.E. Mogherini reiterated EU’s commitment to continued partnership with IGAD. # # #
