June 19, 2019 (DJIBOUTI, Djibouti): Following the passing on of Ato Ahmed Ali, father of the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and IGAD Chair-H.E. Dr Abiy Ahmed, the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), H.E. Amb (Eng) Mahboub Maalim, expressed his deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the Prime Minister and his entire family and to the people of Ethiopia.
The demise of a father is a major loss and it is with shock that I learnt the passing of your father’, the Executive Secretary said. ‘In this hour of sorrow, I convey my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives and friends,’ he continued.
In his condolence message Amb. Mahboub described Ato Ahmed Ali as a respected patriarch who was not only a role model but also a highly respected community leader.
He continued that ‘the IGAD Secretariat is mourning the loss and praying almighty God to give’ PM Abyi and his family ‘the strength to overcome’.
‘May his soul rest in eternal peace’, Amb. Maalim concluded his message.
