April 7, 2021, (ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia): The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, today handed over supplies procured within the framework of the EU-IGAD COVID-19 Response Project to the Government of Ethiopia.

Personal Protective Equipment, the COVID-19 test kits (25,056 tests), a mobile lab, two standard ambulances and one advanced ambulance aimed at being put in use at cross border areas were handed to the Ministry of Health of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.Similar events were held in other IGAD Member states.

The EU allocated a Euros 60 million package to help tackle the health and socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, in support of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in its mandate to coordinate national responses to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Horn of Africa. The programme focuses on vulnerable groups, including migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and cross-border communities, including more than euro 13 million worth of medical supplies and equipment.
