October 7, 2024 (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia): The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Executive Secretary, H.E. Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, extends congratulations to H.E. Taye Atske-Selassie on his inauguration as the President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. H.E. Taye Atske-Selassie, formerly the Minister of Foreign Affairs, assumes the role following the tenure of H.E. Sahle-Work Zewde, who served as President from 2018.
The Executive Secretary acknowledges the contributions of H.E. Sahle-Work Zewde in advancing the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia’s interests and fostering regional cooperation. IGAD expresses appreciation for her service and dedication to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the wider region.
As H.E. Taye Atske-Selassie undertakes the responsibilities of the presidency, IGAD reaffirms its commitment to maintaining and enhancing cooperation with the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on matters of mutual interest, particularly in the areas of regional integration, peace, and development.
IGAD looks forward to continued partnership and constructive engagement with the leadership of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
