Djibouti, 23-03-2016: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) condemns with utmost firmness the coordinated attacks in Brussels on Tuesday March 22, 2016, and which claimed more than 30 innocent lives and left many seriously injured.

“We join the world in condemning the brutal and despicable attacks of civilians at the Zaventem International Airport and the Central Metro Station in Brussels. We grieve with those who have lost their loved ones, wish a speedy recovery to the injured and pray for the families affected by this tragedy. Our thoughts are with the Belgian government as it seeks to provide support for its people”, said His Excellency Amb. (Eng.) Mahboub Maalim, the Executive Secretary of IGAD.

H.E Mahboub Maalim continued to express IGAD’s solidarity with the government and people of Belgium and reaffirmed IGAD’s unconditional and total rejection of all acts of terror and violent extremism. The Executive Secretary called for an enhanced international counter-terrorism cooperation in the IGAD region, the African continent and the entire world.
