IGAD condemns in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks carried out in the coastal town of Mpeketoni in Kenya on June 15, 2014, that deliberately and savagely targeted civilians in a horrific mass killing that claimed the lives of around 50 innocent people and wanton destruction of property.
Our condolences go out to the families of the victims and to the Government of Kenya.
These attacks by terrorist groups that are indiscriminately targeting innocent civilians will not diminish our support to the Government and the people of Kenya in its fight against terrorism.
IGAD joins Kenya in condemning the perpetrators of this heinous crime and we will not be deterred in our resolve to rid the Horn of Africa of terrorists. ###
