May 15, 2020 (DJIBOUTI, Djibouti): The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, sent a message of condolences to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya following recent foods that adversely affected the country.

Dr Workneh deplored the regrettable death of scores of Kenyan brothers and sisters and the displacement of hundreds of thousands others as a result of the recent devastating floods and landslides.

‘We assure our brothers and sisters in Kenya that the thoughts and prayers of the people and Governments of the IGAD region are with them during this difficult time’, his message read.

The Executive Secretary paid tribute to the ‘first-responders and humanitarian response volunteers who are putting their lives, health and safety at risk in the course of rescuing and protecting’ people.

‘At IGAD, we honour the departed and offer deepest sympathies to the displaced and affected communities in Kenya. IGAD stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the People and Government of the Republic of Kenya’, the message concluded. ###
