November 23, 2025 (Djibouti, Djibouti): The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the Government of Japan have reaffirmed their shared commitment to peace and stability in the Republic of Sudan with the signing of a second grant agreement totalling USD 800,000. This follows an initial contribution of USD 500,000 from Japan in support of IGAD’s ongoing efforts to address the conflict and humanitarian crisis in Sudan.

This additional funding will strengthen IGAD’s initiatives to facilitate dialogue, promote peace, and support conflict resolution, as Sudan continues to grapple with a devastating crisis that has displaced over 12 million people and forced many to seek refuge in neighbouring countries.

The deepening partnership between IGAD and Japan reflects the critical role of international cooperation in addressing humanitarian emergencies and fostering long-term stability. IGAD remains committed to working with Japan and other global partners in pursuit of a peaceful and sustainable resolution to the conflict in Sudan.
