IGAD Executive Secretary, H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, congratulates H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on his re election as President of the Republic of Uganda, following the presidential elections held on 15 January 2026.
The Executive Secretary commends the people of Uganda for their civic engagement and reaffirms IGAD’s support for efforts aimed at strengthening democratic governance, peace, stability, and inclusive development.
He further acknowledges the role of the Joint African Union, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), and IGAD Election Observation Mission to Uganda, led by H.E. Goodluck Jonathan, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in observing the electoral process.
The Executive Secretary reiterates IGAD’s continued commitment to working with the Government and people of Uganda in advancing regional cooperation, peace, and shared prosperity.
