A high powered delegation of AU representatives paid a working visit to the IGAD Secretariat to discuss matters of regional integration at continent level.
They were welcomed by IGAD’s Executive Secretary, Eng. Mahboub Maalim, who reiterated the importance of regional integration and promised IGAD’s full support in AU effort to speed up integration of the continent.
“The benefits of integration for the continent are abundantly clear,” said Eng. Maalim drawing examples from border towns where exchange of goods and services happen regardless of official policies. “For a start, we should legalize these informal cross-border transactions as part of the process of regional integration.”
During their stay in Djibouti, the delegation will meet professionals at the Secretariat to device the specifics of minimum integration plan.
