23 November, 2018, NAIROBI (Kenya): H.E.ALI Ibrahim Roba, the Governor of Mandera County, Kenya hosted IGAD Executive Secretary HE, Amb.(Eng) Mahboub Maalim in Nairobi on Friday November 23rd 2019,to discuss support for the Mandera County Government projects.
Part of the discussions between the two leaders touched on supporting regional cross border health care initiatives along with Somalia and Ethiopia (Mandera Triangle) to help reduce burden on the County health care system and infrastructure run by the county government resources.
The two officials also discussed the establishment of a regional diseases surveillance and response facility at the border to respond to the recurrent disease outbreaks, as well as building the capacity of community health workers from the three country to strengthen both animal and human health services.
Support for preventing and countering violent extremism was equally explored with possibilities of building capacity of Mandera County Government officials on countering violent extremism at the Djibouti based IGAD Centre of Excellence for Preventing & Countering Violent Extremism.
Governor Roba also lobbied for support to build the Bridge over River Daua linking Mandera to Malka Suftu. The two leaders also discussed the proposed damming of River Daua to regulate all year round flow of water for enhancing food and nutrition security in the triangle.
