August 27, 2025 (DJIBOUTI, Djibouti): The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, welcomes the consensus reached between the Federal Republic of Somalia and some members of the Somali Salvation Forum.
H.E. Dr. Workneh commends the parties for their leadership and political will, describing the agreement as an important step towards advancing unity, stability, and reconciliation in the Federal Republic of Somalia. He further congratulates H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for his statesmanship and commitment to guiding the country towards peace and inclusivity, noting that continued dialogue and negotiation on outstanding issues remain an important path to lasting peace, state-building, and democratic transformation.
The Executive Secretary encouraged all parties to emulate this constructive step towards a comprehensive agreement, underscoring the value of compromise in achieving lasting solutions. He reaffirmed IGAD’s continued support to the Federal Republic of Somalia, including through its good offices and mediation efforts, while working in close partnership with the country’s leadership and citizens to advance peace, stability, and development.
