June 9, 2025 (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia): The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) commenced a two-day workshop to test and validate its new digitised Activity Reporting System marking a key milestone in modernising the organisation’s institutional monitoring and evaluation processes.
The initiative, supported under the ISAP IV programme, brings together Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) focal points from IGAD’s Divisions and Specialised Institutions, alongside technical teams from the Planning, Coordination and Partnerships Division (PCPD) and the ICT Unit. Hosted at the offices of MMCY Consulting in Addis Ababa, the session is integral to the rollout of a new, automated reporting platform currently under development.
The system is a strategic enhancement of the Planning, Budgeting and Monitoring System (PBMS), first introduced in 2021 to integrate institutional planning, budgeting, and performance tracking. With technical support from MMCY Consulting, IGAD is now advancing its reporting systems, with enhanced features in such areas as real-time reporting, interactive dashboards, and user-friendly interfaces by developing a fully automated module that aligns with its results-based management framework.
“This validation and training workshop is a pivotal moment in IGAD’s digital transformation journey,” said Dr Awira Anthony, Director of PCPD. “The involvement of our M&E focal points ensures that the system we are building is grounded in practical needs and will serve as a powerful tool for results-based management in the Secretariat.”
During the session, participants engaged directly with the demo system, tested its reporting functionalities, assessed its adaptability and alignment with operational requirements, and provided structured feedback to guide further improvements. Hands-on training was also delivered to build user readiness ahead of full deployment.
Speaking on behalf of the IGAD Executive Secretary H.E. Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, Mr. Onyari Josephat, Director of Finance and Administration, emphasised IGAD’s digital transformation vision for a paperless, efficient and transparent institution. These robust systems will drive results and prepare IGAD for the EU pillar assessment:
“The digitisation of our reporting processes is not just a technical upgrade but rather a fundamental shift in how we manage accountability, improve efficiency, and deliver value across all IGAD programmes. This system will significantly reduce manual bottlenecks, enhance transparency and boost data-driven decision-making laying the foundation for a streamlined, automated performance reporting culture at the Secretariat.
