October 3, 2024, (KAMPALA, Uganda): In a strategic effort to enhance the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda, the Peace and Security Division in collaboration with the IGAD Gender Uniti successfully concluded a three-day capacity-building Workshop. The Peace and Security Gender Working Group, discuss critical WPS indicators.
Officially opened by Mrs. Amina Farah, the IGAD Gender Unit Program Manager, the workshop served as an opportunity to refresh the Gender Working Group on key IGAD WPS instruments. The discussions and activities focused on identifying and fine-tuning specific indicators that can effectively track the progress in advancing the WPS agenda in the region. This is crucial for ensuring that programs are not only well-implemented but also measurable and sustainable in the long term.
The three-day workshop included interactive sessions, presentations, and group discussions, offering participants practical insights into the WPS agenda and its implementation. Participants were tasked with identifying key indicators that will guide the monitoring and evaluation of WPS programs.
At the end of the workshop, the Gender Working Group enhanced their understanding of IGAD’s WPS instruments and, developed key indicators to be used for monitoring and evaluating the progress of WPS programs. They also worked towards strengthening regional collaboration in addressing the challenges related to gender, peace, and security. With knowledge shared and capacities built, they ensured that gender considerations remain at the forefront of peace and security efforts.
