The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Executive Secretary, H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, strongly condemns the heinous bomb attacks that occurred on Saturday, September 28, 2024, in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, and the Middle Shabelle region, which claimed lives and left several others injured.

The Executive Secretary extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirms IGAD’s solidarity with the Federal Republic of Somalia. Expressing his support, H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu stated, “IGAD stands firmly with the people and government of the Federal Republic of Somalia against these despicable attacks. Such acts of terror will not shake our resolve or hinder the path
to peace and stability. We are confident in Somalia’s resilience and remain committed to securing a peaceful and prosperous future together.”

IGAD remains steadfast in supporting efforts to combat extremism, strengthen regional stability, and promote a shared vision of progress, ensuring that all communities can build a future rooted in safety, resilience, and prosperity.
