From 10 to 15 February 2026, IGAD is participating in the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government and the 48th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

As a recognised Regional Economic Community within the African Union architecture, IGAD’s engagement advances alignment between regional priorities and Agenda 2063. Led by the Executive Secretary, H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, the delegation is engaging the African Union Commission, Member States, and partners to strengthen cooperation in peace and security, climate resilience, water resources, and economic integration.

At the African Union Inter REC Coordination and Cooperation Platform, IGAD will hand over the Chairmanship to the Southern African Development Community, reaffirming its commitment to strengthened continental coordination.

Through these engagements, IGAD continues to project the Horn of Africa’s priorities onto the continental stage in support of peace, resilience, and shared prosperity.
