The Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is to convening the Annual Ministerial Stock-taking meeting of the IGAD Support Platform for the Implementation of the Nairobi Process/Global Compact on Refugees, which is scheduled to take place from 20th to 23rd November 2023 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The event will consist of a high-level expert meeting from 20-22 November, followed by a Ministerial meeting on 23rd November 2023.

The Ministerial meeting aims to take stock of the progress of the implementation of the Nairobi Declaration and its accompanying thematic declarations (Djibouti, Kampala and Mombasa) and plans of action; endorse the regional strategy for Solutions Initiative for the displacement situation in and from Sudan and South Sudan.

The Ministers will also review and validate the consolidated result framework of the IGAD Support Platform; validate and endorse the joint regional mega pledges on durable solutions and climate change; and endorse the IGAD’s policy framework on refugee protection.

IGAD Support Platform is planning to convene the annual stock take meeting for the Nairobi process which will consist of an Experts/technical meeting that will feed into the Ministerial Meeting and then wind up with the Heads of State Summit. The meeting is expected to occur in Addis Ababa, Somalia on 20-23 November 2023.

The event will have the following objectives:

1. Take stock of the progress of the implementation of the Nairobi Declaration and its accompanying thematic declarations (Djibouti, Kampala and Mombasa) and plans of action;
2. Endorse the regional strategy for Solutions Initiative for the displacement situation in and from Sudan and South Sudan;
3. Review and validate the draft consolidated result framework of the IGAD Support Platform;
4. Validate and endorse the joint regional mega pledges on durable solutions and climate change, and;
5. Endorse the IGAD’s policy framework on refugee protection
