November 3 2024 (Djibouti, Djibouti): The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is organising the 4th IGAD Scientific Conference, slated for April 28-30 2025, under the theme, “Migration, Displacement and Urbanisation: Implications for Sustainable Development”.

The 4th scientific conference provides a platform for academicians, researchers, practitioners and policy makers from IGAD region to stimulate recommendations for evidence-based policy and practice to IGAD and its Member States.

Urbanisation directly affects cities and communities, requiring thoughtful planning for inclusive and sustainable growth. Displacement and migration are becoming a primarily urban phenomenon in the IGAD region. The unprecedented migration and displacement situation present unique sources of opportunities and challenges that affect urbanisation.

The upcoming conference will explore the theme under five sub-themes: drivers and root causes, urban governance and policy, socio-economic integration, financing, investment, and innovation, and data.

The conference will be a renewal of IGAD’s support to its member states to spark conversations on migration and displacement and to benefit from the diversity of ideas and information on the topic of migration, displacement and urbanization.

The IGAD Migration Program of the Health and Social Development Division is receiving abstracts under the five sub-themes with the deadline of December 31, 2024. The notification to the acceptance of abstracts will be January 31, 2025 while the deadline for submission of the full papers is February 28, 2025.

Researchers, academicians and other interested persons can obtain more information on the conference sub-themes and guidelines for submission of abstracts and research papers on the conference page, www.igad.int/scientificconference2025.

The conference is organised in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), the Government of Sweden, Cities Alliance,, ReDSS and the IGAD Universities Forum.
