Dec. 03, 2018, DJIBOUTI (Djibouti): The Executive Secretary pf the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), H.E. Amb (Eng) Mahboub Maalim, yesterday received a delegation led by the United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, H.E. Ambassador Tibor P. Nagy Jr., and the US Ambassador to Djibouti, H.E. Larry André, at the IGAD Centre of Excellence for Preventing/Countering Violent Extremism (CEPCVE) based in Djibouti.

The Executive welcomed the delegation and said that his organisation registered lots of appreciation working with the US government. “We upgraded the level of our relations through the accreditation of a US Ambassador to IGAD in the person of Ambassador Larry Andre’ on top being your Ambassador to the Republic of Djibouti”, he continued.

Amb Maalim also noted the ever growing work relations the regional organisation and the US Agency for International Development have developed. He recalled the recent signature of a $1 Million grant to support the IGAD CEPCVE programmes and activities for the next one year.

The Executive then engaged in a discussion with the delegation on the current situation in the IGAD region before a presentation on IGAD CEPCVE was given.

In the morning of the same day, the Executive Secretary received the Ambassador of Italy to Ethiopia, H.E. Arturo Luzzi, in his office at the Secretariat of the regional organisation in Djibouti. The two parties discussed the visit of the upcoming Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy, H.E. Prof. Emanuella De Re, to IGAD Secretariat.
