Phase-1 of the Joint Financing Arrangement (JFA) between IGAD and Pooled Fund Partners (Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden) has been operational from October 2009 to June 2012. The objective JFA mechanism is to help IGAD build its institutional capacity to deliver its mandate of regional integration, maintenance of peace and security and sustainable management of environmental resources in the region. Following the tangible and positive contribution of JFA phase-1 to the IGAD effort in institutional capacity, the Pooled Fund Partners and IGAD agreed to continue with JFA Phase-2, which was officially signed on 28 August 2012 in Addis Ababa. JFA Phase-2 will run from July 2012 to December 2014 and contribute significantly to the financing of implementation of IGAD Institutional Strengthening Action Plan (ISAP).
It is with great sorrow and shock that the IGAD family and myself learned of the untimely passing away of H.E. Ato Meles Zenawi the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Chairman of IGAD.
Executive Secretary of IGAD, Eng. Mahboub Maalim received in his office H.E. Ambassador Nicola Delcroix, the head of the Delegation of the European Union to Djibouti and Representative to IGAD. The Executive Secretary accepted a letter of credentials from the ambassador.
At the invitation of the UN Secretary-General, H. E. Eng. Mahboub Maalim, Executive Secretary of IGAD, attended the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Retreat with Heads of Regional and other Organizations which was held at Greentree Estate, New York, on 9 June 2012. He was accompanied by Dr. Debalkew Berhe, PM for environment Protection.
