National Policy Workshop with Government of Djibouti on the IGAD Protocol on Free Movement of Persons in IGAD Region and Its Road Map for Implementation

The Free Movement Protocol was endorsed on 26 February 2020 by IGAD by MS Ministers in charge of Internal Affairs and labour.  This was followed by the adoption of the protocols on free movement of persons and Transhumance by IGAD Council of Ministers (24^th June, 2021). In the same meeting, the Ministers approved the accompanying road map for the implementation of the protocol.

IGAD Member States are now pursuing the next steps of signing and ratification of the protocol. To this end The Republic of South Sudan, The Republic of Sudan, The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and The Federal Republic of Somalia have signed the Protocol.

IGAD is organizing a high-level workshop with the Government of Djibouti on the IGAD Protocol on Free Movement of Persons in IGAD Region and Its Road Map for Implementation.

Objectives of the National Policy Workshop

• To present provisions of the Protocol on Free Movement of Persons to Policy and Law makers of the Government of Djibouti.
• To present the phased-out Road Map for the implementation of the Protocol as adopted by the council of Ministers
• Engage key legislators and policymakers on signature, ratification, domestication and dissemination of the Protocol by Government of Djibouti.
