Land Governance Programme

About the Programme

Land governance is crucial for the development and stability of the IGAD region, encompassing Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda. Effective management of land and resources ensures food security and social equity. However, weak governance can lead to conflict and environmental degradation, making it vital to strengthen land tenure systems and integrate reforms into national development strategies.
Vision

To increase the IGAD region’s capacity in land governance for sustainable development.

Mission
To assist and complement member countries’ efforts in achieving food security, environmental protection, peace and security, and economic cooperation and integration.
Goal
To integrate effective land governance within national and regional development strategies, ensuring land becomes a key driver for sustainable development in the IGAD region.
