The  IGAD Secretariat’s delegation team composed of  Dr. S.J. MuchinaMunyua, Coordinator of IGAD Center for Pastoral Areas and Livestock Development (ICPALD), Dr. AbdiJama, Senior Policy Advisor IGAD and Dr. AmehaSebsibe, Livestock Expert, ICPALD were welcomed by H.E. Dr. Abdel Aziz Asistant Secretary General Negotiations & Strategic Dialogue and Dear Adel Jalal, Director, Regional Cooperation & Aid Coordination, Gulf Council Cooperation (GCC) in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on April 29, 2013.

The IGAD team brefied the GCC on the on-going programs and new initiatives with regard to livestock disease control and drought resillence, among others  being implented by member states and IGAD, in collaboration with development partners. The two parties discussed  on the importance of collaboration and identified future areas of collaboration and cooperation. Some of the agreed actions are
•    To develop a concept note focussing on national priority investments in the IGAD Member states for use by the GCC management to senstize investors in the Middle East  in preparation of an IGAD – GCC organized investment conference (private sector based) in December 2013 in an IGAD MS. It was agreed that IGAD- GCC hold a consultative meeting in Djibouti in four to six weeks to review the progress and concretize some of the proposed actions
•    IGAD-GCC established an adhoc committee to follow up proposed actions and timeline for the above activities  and finalization of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
•    To organize and undertake an IGAD-GCC regional workshop on Animal Health focussing on the current efforts, challenges and joint future actions
•    The GCC proposed to consider development support for  Somalia, South Sudan and IGAD. This will  complement  the resource gap to implement Somalia and South SudanCPPs that a key components of the IDDRSI. As part of the proposed collaboration IGAD shared three concept notes for GCC to review and consider for possible joint collaborative programs
At the end of the meeting Dr. Abdel Aziz, applauded IGADs  efforts in enhancing economic integration of its member states and initiating strenghtening of the cooperation with the GCC that benefits the people of  both regions
The mission was financed by USAID project, Standard Methods and Procedures in Animal Health being implemented by AU-IBAR and IGAD/ICPALD
