Mogadishu, 18 January 2018 – The United Nations, African Union, European Union, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Djibouti, Ethiopia, Italy, Kenya, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Turkey, Uganda, United Kingdom and United States congratulate the Federal Member State of Galmudug and Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a (ASWJ) for concluding the agreement endorsed in Dhusamareb today which paves the way for the establishment of a unified Galmudug administration. The international partners also congratulated Galmudug President Ahmed Duale Ghelle “Xaaf” and ASWJ leader Sheikh Shakir for their commitment to reconciliation and unity, and the efforts to build an inclusive and stable Federal Member State in Galmudug.
1. 01 December 2017, Djibouti: Clingendael Academy facilitated a workshop in Djibouti in support of the negotiation process between the administration of the state of Galmudug, part of the Federal State of Somalia, and Ahlul Sunna Wal Jamaa. The workshop was conducted by Clingendael and the Somalia Stability Fund under the auspices of IGAD and the Federal State of Somalia from 27th to 30th November 2017. The goal of the Workshop was to take the participants through negotiation best practices with practical references aimed at successful reconciliation.
14-11-2017, Galkacyao, Somalia: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) through its Special Mission to Somalia (SMS) has organized a two-day Consensus Building Preparatory workshop for peace-building and the implementation of the different ceasefire and peace agreements signed between Puntland and Galmudug Administrations over Galkacyo disputes. The workshop ended today in Galkacyo, Somalia.
8th October 2016, Djibouti: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) through its Special Mission to Somalia (SMS) has organized a training workshop on strategic planning and policy formulation for senior officials from the Federal Government of Somalia from tomorrow in Nairobi.
“This is part of the tangible interventions that we are doing in collaboration with our development partners for Somalia,” the IGAD Executive Secretary, Amb (Eng.) Mahboub Maalim has pointed out on the eve of the training, adding that more of them will be done alongside other capacity building activities.
The one-week training workshop will be conducted by a group of consultants for the 40 participants drawn from the Ministry of Planning of the Federal Government, as well as the Regional Administrations of Jubaland, South West, Galmudug and Hirshabelle.
With the financial support from the European Union, the workshop will strengthen the knowledge of the government officials and boost their capacity for strategic planning and policy formulation.
The Deputy Director in the Economic and Trade Directorate of Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Mr Joshua Mugodo will open the training workshop accompanied by the IGAD Special Envoy to Somalia, Dr Mohamed Guyo at the Hilton Hotel on Monday at 9.00 am. ENDS
