IGAD Office of the Facilitator for Somalia Peace and National Reconciliation in Collaboration with the Federal Republic of Somalia, House of the People with financial support from the European Union has organized a 5 days capacity building training for the Federal Government of Somalia members of Parliament, from the 4th of August to the 8th of August, 2014 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The official Opining of the training was launched by, Amb. Zaddock Syongóh , from The ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya, Amb. Mohamed Ali Nur, Somalia Ambassador to Kenya, and Hon.Aden Dualle ,Leader of Majority of Kenya’s National Assembly. The session was attended by 27 (6 female and 21 male) members of parliament which are delegated to attend the training by the Federal Republic of Somalia, House of the People.

The training was conducted by three professionals from the Africa Centre for Technology and Enterprise Development Services. Some of the main areas covered in the session were Traits/qualities of an effective leader, Leadership styles and when (situations) to use them, Transformational &Strategic Leadership for the 21st Century, 7 secrets of aspiring leaders, Ethics and good governance, Types of conflicts, Sources of conflict, Key principles of conflict resolution & peace building, Key Steps & methods in conflict analysis and resolution, Key mediation/Conflict resolution skills, Community peace building methods, Types of state communication, strategic communication for effective governance, communication for development and foundations of developmental communication.   The session was presented in the context of the situation in Somalia.

The training was positively welcomed by all participants and managed to engage group works and simulations in the context of the culture and the current situation in Somalia. The participants expressed their interest to effectively participate in the stabilization process of Somalia by putting in practice what they have achieved from the training. They also had opportunity to visit the Kenyan Parliament.

The Session was concluded by Amb.Mohamed Abdi Affey, IGAD Special Envoy to Somalia , Amb. Alexander  Rondos , European Union, Special Representative for the Horn Of African, Hon. Mahad Abdalla Awad ,the 2nd Deputy Speaker of the house of the people of the Federal Republic of Somalia. On their remark, they congratulated all participants for their efforts and encouraged them to apply what they acquired from the training on the ongoing peace and stabilization is Somalia.
