May 1, 2021 (DJIBOUTI, Djibouti): Yesterday, H.E Abdalla Hamdok, Prime Minister of the Republic of Sudan and Chairperson of IGAD reached out to Somalia political leaders and urged them to come together and resolve the current political stalemate through dialogue.

To this end, IGAD welcomes the annulment of the extension of mandate of the Executive and Parliament, and the restoration of the 17th September Agreement by the Lower House of Parliament.

IGAD urges all stakeholders to rapidly resume dialogue and negotiate in good faith. All stakeholders have a responsibility to create a conducive atmosphere for a successful dialogue.

IGAD will fully support Prime Minister Mohamed Roble and all other stakeholders in a Somali-owned dialogue that will deliver on the popular aspiration of the Somali people towards the holding of peaceful and credible elections as soon as possible.
