4th March 2020 Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) successfully concluded the 6th National Consultation on the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden held in Addis Ababa Ethiopia from 3rd-4th March 2020. The consultation was marked by active participation of a broad spectrum of stakeholders.

 The national consultation was presided over by H. E Amb.Yibeletal Aemero, the Director General of Neighboring Countries and IGAD. Amb.Yibeletal expressed the commitment and support of Ethiopia to the IGAD Red Sea and Gulf of Aden initiative. He emphasized on the value of multilateral cooperation as collective effort to harness opportunities and mitigate threats in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

The national consultation was convened in line with the resolution of the 2nd meeting of the IGAD Task Force[1] on the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The objective of the consultations was to develop a regional plan of action and build momentum towards a common IGAD Position on the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.  ###

[1] An IGAD Task Force was established in line with the 46th IGAD Council of Ministers Resolution made on the 27th of February 2019. The Task Force is mandated to harmonize and develop an IGAD Common Position and Chart out a Regional Plan of Action to protect the security and economic interest of the region.
