JUBA, 21st February 2020: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) successfully concluded the 5th National Consultation on the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden in Juba, South Sudan from 20th-21st February 2020. Participants were drawn from a wide spectrum of institutions of the Republic of South Sudan; mandated to engage in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden arena.
The meeting was officially opened by H.E Amb. Mayen Dut Wol, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Amb Mayen pointed out the importance of the national consultation as a framework of inclusive engagement. In addition, he noted that the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden is an importance space that has both opportunities and challenges. Amb Mayen emphasized the need for collective effort by the IGAD Member States to develop a common position that will enhance peace and stability. .
The ongoing national consultation is in line with the resolution of the 2nd IGAD Task Force meeting held in Djibouti from 15th-18th September 2019; which called for the convening of the national consultation in all the member states to enrich a regional plan of action.
