(May 2, 2019 - Addis Ababa) A meeting of the leadership of the parties to the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) was convened today in Addis Ababa.
The Technical Boundary Committee (TBC) has submitted its final report to the IGAD Mediation.
The TBC, established pursuant to Article 22.214.171.124 and 126.96.36.199 of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) 2018, was officially inaugurated on 9 January 2019 and completed its work within 60 days thereafter retreated to compile, validate and publish its final report.
Using 1 January 1956 as a base, the TBC was expected to list and map the tribal boundaries which are violated by the establishment of 32 states in the Republic of South Sudan.
Presenting the report to the report to the IGAD Special Envoy, the TBC Chairperson confirmed that the report was adopted by consensus pursuant to article 188.8.131.52 of the R-ARCSS.
The TBC was chaired by Mr. Ali Gragandi Naeem from Sudan and comprised of experts from Uganda, Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
The Independent Boundaries Commission (IBC) has completed a two-day meeting in Juba as it commenced its work aimed at considering the number of states of the Republic of South Sudan, their boundaries, and the composition and restructuring of the Council of States.
