June 2, 2020 (ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia): I have learned with a heavy heart the untimely passing on of the Minister for East African Community Affairs, Hon. John Luk Jok, who was also a senior member of the Former Detainees (FDs) and a former Minister for Transport and Minister for Justice.

From public health emergencies, societal challenges and significant disruption of the economy, the pandemic has presented unique sets of challenges on an unprecedented scale. On the other hand, the pandemic has brought out the resilience of our IGAD Member States as demonstrated in their collective and concerted efforts in fighting the spread of COVID-19.

February 22, 2020 (JUBA, South Sudan): The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) welcomes the decision of the Parties to the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan  (R-ARCSS) to form the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU). The resolve by H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan and Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan, to compromise on two of the sticking issues that twice necessitated the deferment of the formation of the R-TGoNU demonstrated great leadership on their part.

Dr. Ismail Wais received with great sorrow the sad news of the sudden and untimely demise of Amb. Chris Mburu, Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to the Republic of South Sudan, on Sunday, 16th February 2020, in Juba, South Sudan. “He was indeed a seasoned Diplomat. The people of Kenya and the Region has lost a wonderful Son” said Amb. Dr. Wais.
