February 18, 2020 (ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia) The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Special Envoy for South Sudan, Amb. Dr. Ismail Wais received with great sorrow the sad news of the sudden and untimely demise of Amb. Chris Mburu, Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to the Republic of South Sudan, on Sunday, 16th February 2020, in Juba, South Sudan. “He was indeed a seasoned Diplomat. The people of Kenya and the Region has lost a wonderful Son” said Amb. Dr. Wais. 

Amb. Mburu will be remembered for his contribution to South Sudan through his fervent and unwavering support for the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS). He demonstrated his distinguished sense of dedication and sincere commitment towards the triumph of the goals and ideals of long-lasting peace, stability and prosperity in South Sudan. Worthy of particular mention was Amb. Mburu’s regular presence and participation in the consultation meetings of the Leadership of the Parties to the R-ARCSS in Juba, South Sudan, on the issue of the number of states and their boundaries. 

Amb. Dr. Wais wishes to convey his deepest condolences and that of the entire IGAD South Sudan Office family to Ambassador Mburu’s family, relatives and friends, his colleagues in Juba, South Sudan, as well as the Government and the people of the Republic of Kenya for the loss of Amb. Mburu. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
