(Addis Ababa – December 11, 2018) The IGAD Special Envoy for South Sudan, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Ismail Wais  met with members of the non-signatories to the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) as mandated by the 66th Session of IGAD Council of Ministers that was held in Addis Ababa on 16 November 2018.

 The meeting was attended by Gen. Thomas Cirilllo, Gen. Fair Fatur and Mr. Louis Danga of the South Sudan National Democratic Alliance, an umbrella party that brings together several opposition groups that are not signatory to the ARCSS. Also present were Mr. Nuur Mohamud Sheekh and Mr. Mearuf Nurhusien of the South Sudan Office. 

The Special Envoy too note of the grievances of the group and the way forward for sustainable peace in the Republic of South Sudan. 

Gen. Thomas Cirillo stated that his party was ready to continue the dialogue and engagement with IGAD and all the parties and stakeholders of South Sudan and agreed to abide by the Agreement on Cessation of Hostilities, Protection of Civilians and Humanitarian Access. 

“We will continue to bring on board all parties to sign the agreement and leave no one behind. This is the best chance for sustainable peace to the conflict in South Sudan,” said Dr. Ismail Wais. Dr. Wais assured General Cirillo and his delegation of his continued engagement with all the parties and stakeholders of the South Sudan process in order to help find a lasting peace.
