February 22, 2020 (JUBA, South Sudan): The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) welcomes the decision of the Parties to the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan  (R-ARCSS) to form the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU). The resolve by H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan and Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan, to compromise on two of the sticking issues that twice necessitated the deferment of the formation of the R-TGoNU demonstrated great leadership on their part.

February 18, 2020 (ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia) The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Special Envoy for South Sudan, Amb. Dr. Ismail Wais received with great sorrow the sad news of the sudden and untimely demise of Amb. Chris Mburu, Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to the Republic of South Sudan, on Sunday, 16th February 2020, in Juba, South Sudan. “He was indeed a seasoned Diplomat. The people of Kenya and the Region has lost a wonderful Son” said Amb. Dr. Wais.

Under the auspices  of the Community of Sant'Egidio in Rome, and witnessed by IGAD, the government of South Sudan, the South Sudan Opposition Movements Alliance (SSOMA), The SPLM/A-IO, and NDM has signed a peace declaration in which they recommit to the Secession of Hostilities Agreement of December 2017 to avoid confrontation between the signatories and non-signatories parties of South Sudan peace agreement. The parties called for continued and uninterrupted humanitarian access to the local and international organization.
