The Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) continues to closely follow developments in the Sudan and takes note of the Statement issued by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission following the latest developments in Khartoum.


IGAD regrets the loss of  lives and expresses its concern on the escalation of the conflict. It further would like to underscore the need to preserve the peace and stability of the Sudan and calls on all Sudanese stakeholders to exercise maximum restraint and ease the increasing tension. IGAD further calls on the Sudanese stakeholders to return to the negotiation table and work in good faith and in the  spirit of compromise.

IGAD reaffirms its continued engagement on the situation in the Sudan, in coordination with the African Union and it stands in support and solidarity with the Sudan and its people as they strive to overcome current challenges.
